No firework competition during Ravan Podi event in Cuttack: Orissa High Court

The High Court has given emphasis on the smooth conduct of Ravan Podi event. The Advocate Committee has suggested to use only colourful firecrackers that don’t have any kind of harmful effect on the environment.

There will be no firecracker competitions during Ravan Podi event in Cuttack on occasion of this Dussehra following Orissa High Court’s directive.

As a result, puja pandals in the Millennium City are set to miss the opportunity of holding spectacular firework display this year due to the Court’s order.

The High Court came up with the directive while hearing an intervening petition filed by Sarbadharma Sadharana Parishad.

As per reports, the High Court has given emphasis on the smooth conduct of Ravan Podi event. The Advocate Committee has suggested to use only colourful firecrackers that don’t have any kind of harmful effect on the environment. As per the Committee, it will strike a balance between culture and addressing environmental pollution.

As per sources, all kinds of arrangement will be made at the lower Bali Jatra ground and directions have also been issued to Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and district administration to take necessary measures to maintain discipline during Ravan Podi. 

The High Court has also ordered the DCP Cuttack to ensure proper traffic management in view of anticipated rush in the city during the upcoming festival.
