Newborn’s body found in hospital toilet in Kandhamal
In a tragic incident, the body of a newborn baby girl was found in a toilet of Daringbadi Community Health Centre in Kandhamal district on Wednesday.
According to the hospital authorities, the infant's underage mother attempted to dispose of the baby following childbirth. Fire services were summoned to retrieve the body, which was reportedly trapped in the toilet pan.
As per the hospital sources, the minor girl arrived at the facility with her family, seeking help for severe abdominal pain. Later she gave birth in the men’s toilet at the hospital. Disturbingly, the baby’s head was found stuck within the toilet pan when discovered.
Subsequently, the hospital officials alerted both fire services and local police. By the time emergency services arrived, the newborn had unfortunately succumbed.
Meanwhile, the underage mother is reportedly in stable condition. Daringbadi police are conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the events and causes leading to the infant’s death.

“The woman went into the men’s toilet and gave birth to a baby girl. Subsequently, the baby’s head was stuck inside the commode. We informed about the development to the local police and fire services department. They arrived at the spot and retrieved the body,” said Dr Jakesh Samantray, Superintendent of Daringbadi Community Health Centre.
“I have spoken with the woman and her health condition is stable. She is now undergoing treatment at the hospital,” said Daringbadi CDPO Sandharani Panda.
