Navy Day Celebrations in Puri: Warships, fighter jets, laser and drone shows to enthral spectators
Navy Day will be celebrated along the Blue Flag beach in pilgrim town Puri on December 4 which will be attended by President Droupadi Murmu.
The Navy Day celebrations will feature 15 warships and 40 aircraft executing combat exhibitions for the first time in Odisha.
Sharing details about the preparation, INS Chilka’s commanding officer B Deepak Aneel said, “This is the first time it has been decided to demonstrate operations in Odisha. The preparations for the Navy Day celebrations have begun months back. Ships, submarines, aircraft and various other marine commandoes will be participating in the event. You will have a spectacular show.”
“15 warships, over 40 aircraft including fighters, helicopters and many other types of smaller aircraft will be participating in the event. This is primarily to bring out what are the capabilities of the Indian Navy and to bring out how Navy has become a credible, capable, cohesive and future-ready force,” he added.

Shedding light on the warships participating in the event, the senior officer said, “There are various kinds of warships. While some perform anti-submarine activities, some do anti-air and some perform amphibious operations. You will get to see all types of warships here.”
“We have LPD-INS Jalashwa which is a landing platform dock (LPD) and performs amphibious operations. Besides, we have the Delhi-Class Destroyers which are very potent platforms. They are the front force which goes into the armsway. We have Shivalik-Class Frigates and some corvettes, offshore patrol vehicles and tankers to name a few,” he added.
Asked about the formations, Aneel said, “As far as ships are concerned, they are putting two lines in two columns which are separated by a kilometre between them. They will be manoeuvring and performing illumination along with firing certain weapons. On completion of the activity, laser shows and drone shows will be performed which will depict the maritime legacy of Odisha.”
The show will commence at 4 pm on December 4 and continue till 5.30 pm. After that there will be laser and drone shows which will end at 6.30 pm, he concluded.
