'My husband tried to kill me': Odisha Police constable’s wife demands justice

In a shocking turn of events, a police constable’s wife from Bolangir district in Odisha has brought serious accusations of ‘attempt to murder’ against her husband. She demanded his immediate arrest as she battled for life in the local hospital.

The heinous incident has been reported from a village under Tusura police limits in Bolangir district.

According to sources, Nupur Biswal is married to Jyotiranjan Pradhan, a police constable. However, over reasons yet to be known, Jyoti colluded with a friend to plot her murder on December 8. In a pre-planned manner, he took her to a forest where his friend was waiting in a pre-planned manner.

The two then tried to stone her to death inside the forest. Fortunately, local residents heard her scream and came to her aid, and promptly admitted her to the hospital for medical treatment.

While police have managed to apprehend Jyotiranjan's friend, Jagannath Pradhan, the former has gone into hiding and is currently evading arrest. Meanwhile, Bolangir SP placed him under suspension from his duties.

In an exclusive interview with Odisha Television Ltd (OTV) following her recovery, Nupur Biswal described the harrowing ordeal.

“Both of us were on leave, so we had gone to our father-in-law’s house. That day we had to go to see a bride for my brother-in-law. My mother-in-law took the bus, while my husband and I went by a scooter. Mid-way, he stopped the scooter on the pretext of attending nature’s call,” alleged Nupur Biswal.

“A friend of my husband was waiting mid-way when he stopped the scooter. Before, I could understand anything, they attacked me with a huge lock, which I think they had brought from home, in a pre-planned manner to kill me. They gagged me and took me 20m into the forest where they tried to kill me. However, I screamed for help following which local residents present nearby rushed to my aid. The two then fled away after locals rushed to the spot. I was admitted to the hospital by the locals,” she alleged.

Authorities continue their search for Jyotiranjan Pradhan as the investigation into these grave allegations proceeds.
