Sixth edition of Odisha Eco-Retreat inaugurated in Konark

Deputy CM Pravati Parida inaugurated the sixth 'Odisha Eco-Retreat' at Kushabhadra river near Konark. The event, promoting eco-tourism, features luxury cottages and cultural evenings.

The Odisha Eco-Retreat in Konark

Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida inaugurated the sixth edition of the ‘Odisha Eco-Retreat’ on Friday at the Kushabhadra river mouth near Ramachandi Pitha in Konark.

The eco-friendly event is one of the state’s premier offerings aimed at attracting tourists. As such, the Eco-Retreat will continue for 90 days, offering tourists the chance to immerse themselves in nature.

The event at Konark is situated along the Marine Drive and will allow visitors to enjoy the expansive beaches, the Balukhand Sanctuary, the artistry of the Sun Temple of Konark, a variety of adventurous water sports, independent recreational activities, and a host of planned cultural evenings.

To ensure a luxurious stay for tourists, 70 premium cottages have been arranged, which offer spacious rooms with bedding along with a porch and attached bathroom.

Speaking at the inauguration event, the Deputy CM emphasized the vast tourism potential the Eco-Retreat holds for Odisha and its Tourism Department. Additionally, she also expressed hope that soon members of the overseas Indian communities (Pravasi Bharatiya) will also throng to the event in large numbers.

“Odisha is known as ‘India’s best-kept secret’ but with our hospitality at this event, we want the world to see the beauty of Odisha, its tradition, and its cultures. We are ready to welcome the world,” she added.

Held during the winters, the Eco-Retreat events take place at several places in the state and promote its rich biodiversity and hospitality. Similar retreats are also ongoing at places like Bhitarkanika, Daringbadi, and Satkosia, among others, and are overseen by the Tourism Department.
