Odisha constable accused of attempted-murder of wife suspended; accomplice held

A police constable working in the reserve force identified as Jyoti Pradhan was placed under suspension on Friday over an alleged attempt to murder his wife, who also serves as a constable. The incident previously occurred on the night of December 8 during their return from a wedding event at Samara village under Tusura Police limits of Bolangir district.

Bolangir Superintendent of Police (SP) Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo issued the suspension order following a probe.

According to official sources, an altercation erupted between Jyoti and his wife, Nupur Biswal, during the motorcycle ride. On their way back home, Jyoti, assisted by his acquaintance named Jagannath Pradhan, tried to attack Nupur with a stone with an alleged motive to eliminate her once and for all. Hearing the victim woman’s scream, some locals intervened, prompting both accused to flee from the crime spot, the sources added.

Nupur Biswal is currently undergoing medical treatment at a private hospital in Bolangir, where her condition is stated to be critical. Tusura Police have apprehended Jagannath Pradhan and brought him before the judiciary, while Jyoti Pradhan remains at large.

Worth mentioning, earlier in the day, Rourkela police detained the husband of a pregnant woman, a day, after she was tragically shot dead in an alleged pre-planned murder at a village of Jhirdapali panchayat under Tikayatpali Police limits in Sundargarh district.

In a major development, police also detained a cop along with two local youths for their alleged role in the pre-planned murder that was later shown as an attempt to loot.
