A statue of Veer Surendra Sai in Sambalpur
A new multilingual film is on the anvil to honour the life and achievements of Veer Surendra Sai, a prominent and revered freedom fighter from Western Odisha, noted filmmaker Sabyasachi Mohapatra announced on Thursday.
Mohapatra divulged the details of his upcoming project during a commemorative event marking Surendra Sai’s birth anniversary celebration in Sambalpur district. Mohapatra, who has previously produced a documentary film on Surendra Sai, intends for this film to shed further light on the historical figure’s enduring legacy.
In Sambalpur, the birthplace of Surendra Sai, a series of commemorative events were held to mark the occasion. These events paid tribute to his impactful contributions, drawing participants from across the city in celebration of his legacy.
“Earlier, I had told this in a press conference held in Bhubaneswar around ten years ago. The project is a big one needing huge investment and hence could not proceed thereafter. I have the desire in me and the script is also ready by now,” the filmmaker stated.
“I have come to his (Surendra Sai’s) birthplace today. Standing on this auspicious soil, I am hopeful that I can produce the film on him with the blessings of Maa Samaleswari. I cannot tell the exact date when it is to be started. However, the film will be a multilingual one which will help spread the story of his life and sacrifices to people outside the State,” filmmaker Mohapatra expressed to OTV.
