Throwing an open challenge to the Commissionerate Police, robbers allegedly broke into a house at Jagannath Nagar under Laxmisagar Police limits in Bhubaneswar and decamped with gold jewellery worth lakhs of rupees late at night on December 31.

According to sources, Sabitri Panda and her husband were staying in a rented house at Jagannath Nagar. They were away at a relative’s house when the burglary took place. When people were busy welcoming New Year’s Day, miscreants broke into the couple’s house through the window and looted gold jewellery worth about Rs 3 lakh.

On reaching home, they found the window broken and gold jewellery missing. Sabitri lodged a complaint at Laxmisagar Police Station.

Registering a case, the police are now scanning the footage of the CCTC cameras installed in the locality.

It is said that the police have some clues on the burglars.

Barring one burglary gang arrested by the Nayapalli Police, the Commissionerate Police has failed to solve the other cases. The frequent loot incidents even prompted the police to issue an advisory to the city dwellers, asking them not to post about their visit plans on social media platforms and to inform neighbours to keep a watch on their houses in their absence.
