The smart city Bhubaneswar seems to be turning into a safe haven for criminals with frequent incidents of loot being reported every day. In the latest instance, a robber gang went on a looting spree and targeted five flats of an apartment in the Gadakana area late on Monday night.

According to sources, the robbers sneaked into the apartment even in the presence of security guards. The robbers broke into the lockers of the room and looted valuables worth lakhs of rupees.

An inter-state gang that is active in the smart city is believed to be behind the loot, said sources.

The CCTV installed in the apartment has captured the visuals of the robbers.

On being informed, the police reached the spot and initiated an investigation by examining the CCTV footage to nab the looters.

It is to be noted that on December 11, unidentified miscreants targeted an Automated teller machine (ATM) of the State Bank of India (SBI) and decamped with over Rs 10 lakh cash from it here.

The incident was reported from the SBI ATM kiosk at Hatasahi under Lingaraj police station limits in Smart City.

The cases of loot are persistently on the rise in the smart city and challenging the Commissionerate Police, as the robbers are maintaining their looting streak.
