Migrant worker from Odisha 'tied with wires, beaten to death' in Chennai
A man from Kumunia village under Ghasipura police limits in Keonjhar district, working in Chennai as a migrant labourer, was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Madhusudan Naik (30).
Sources stated that his family, however, alleged that he was brutally beaten to death and that a photograph showing Naik’s hands tied with wire, and his bloodied body, was sent to them alongside news of his death.
Reports also added that the family received a notification to collect Naik’s body from local authorities in Chennai, who had recovered the same from a forested area. However, the family’s financial inability hampered their attempts to bring the body back home.
Family alleges lack of support, financial inability
Despite repeated pleas, they allegedly received no effective support from the local administration or the Labour Department. As a result, the body was reportedly cremated in Chennai itself, added sources.
“We received an intimation from my brother-in-law, who broke the news that my son was brutally thrashed to death. He forwarded a photograph showing Naik’s hands and body tied with thick wires. His entire head was covered with deep injuries, and he was reportedly left to die by unknown persons,” said Rahasa Naik, father of the deceased, while also denying his son’s enmity with any individual.

Meanwhile, former Sarpanch of the Gohira panchayat stated that efforts will be made to bring Naik’s remains from Tamil Nadu.
“We have collected all data from the deceased’s family and will appeal to the district collector to bring back his remains. It appears that he was tied and thrashed to death by unidentified miscreants during his time as a daily wage labourer in Chennai,” he said.
