Bhubaneswar City will soon be expanded from its current limits to accommodate the growing population and ease traffic congestion, housing, and public welfare, stated Odisha Minister of Housing and Urban Development Krushnachandra Mohapatra.
Addressing media persons, the Minister said that the state capital will be transformed into a new city with modern planning. He added that plans are underway to include more areas under the Town Planning Scheme (TP Scheme) and expand Bhubaneswar city limits.
In order to ensure a streamlined process of transformation, all corporations and administrative units of the city will be developed and expanded to handle the growing city.
“Bhubaneswar is currently facing traffic and housing crisis with prices skyrocketing. The current Mohan Majhi government will look into it; and it, is expected to be resolved once the city expands,” stated the minister.
He also added that the various schemes in this regard are in various stages of discussion even for other cities besides the state capital.

Proposals include constructing a ring road and widening existing roads for better infrastructure and connectivity. Further, the CM Mohan Majhi-led government has also envisioned developing a tri-city comprising Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri.
“The tri-city proposal is in discussion and plans for it will be revealed in the coming days,” said Krushnachandra Mohapatra in the same interaction with the media.

Notably, the state government recently announced a string of development measures. From the development of Puri into an international city to the Mahanadi riverfront beautification project in Cuttack, several schemes are currently underway simultaneously.
