Casualty ward of Jajpur district headquarters hospital
In a distressing occurrence in Odisha’s Jajpur district, a man and a woman were discovered with severe injuries near Malahata locality on Wednesday. Both victims allegedly bore deep cuts to their necks and were swiftly taken to the district headquarters hospital by some locals.
Preliminary probe indicated the woman, hailing from a village under Korei police limits, had entered into a second marriage, after leaving her first husband. Tensions from this domestic situation appear to have culminated in the brutal attack. The woman has identified her first husband and his relatives as the assailants.
Further disturbing details reveal that the man also suffered mutilation to his private parts. It is alleged that the couple was lured to a canal near Jajpur Malahata under the pretext of a family meeting orchestrated by the woman's former in-laws.
Local police are investigating the case, yet there have been no formal statements from the police or the woman's first husband at this stage. This incident highlights the grave consequences that can arise from unresolved domestic conflicts.
“My in-laws used to trouble me a lot. They were also beating me now and then. Irked with this, I had eloped with this man a year ago. The in-laws took us in a vehicle to Sathipur Bridge and my brother-in-law (husband’s younger brother), along with the son of my elder father-in-law, tied us and threw us from the bridge,” the victim woman alleged.
No comments were received from local police or the woman’s in-laws in this regard.
