In a shocking incident, a man poisoned his minor son and daughter to death before consuming it himself in Parlakhemundi of Gajapati district. The three succumbed despite being rushed to medical aid.
The accused father was identified as Subhasis Panigrahi, and the deceased were 8-year-old Bijayananda Panigrahi and 11-year-old Priyadarshini Panigrahi.
Sources reported that on Wednesday afternoon, the three were found in a critical condition in their residence and were rushed to the Paralakhemundi District Hospital. During treatment, Bijaynanda passed away after his health condition deteriorated.
Subsequently, the health of the father and daughter also worsened, and the duo were shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. Unfortunately, sources reported that Priyadirshini died last night. An update from this morning also conveyed that the father had succumbed as well.
As of the last reports, Subhasis Panigrahi is undergoing treatment but remains in a critical condition. Based on evidence found at home, family members conveyed to police that Subhasis had poisoned himself as well as his kids.
It is worth mentioning that Sweta Panigrahi, wife of the accused, had also died suddenly on March 21 this year. Prima facie reports indicate that she was also poisoned by Subhasis. The entire chain of events has currently been attributed to arising out of matrimonial disputes.

“He (Subhasis) has now killed both my grandson and my granddaughter. I was unable to meet my family, as he had warned that if I ever came to Parlakhemundi, then he would cause me serious harm,” alleged the maternal grandfather of the two deceased kids.
Meanwhile, police have taken a stock of the situation and recorded the statements of key individuals. A probe has begun based on the initial reports. However, police have not offered any additional comments on the matter and are continuing further interrogation.
