Bolangir police at the crime scene
A man was hacked to death in broad daylight in the Chimney Bhati school area of Bolangir this morning. The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.
Sources reported that the dead body of a man was found lying in the middle of the road alongside a parked bike at around 11 am to 12 pm today. Reports also added that a sharp stick was also found lying next to the deceased, hinting that he was stabbed to death.
However, the attack did not seem premeditated. Ground reports hinted that the victim was attacked and killed on the spot rather than being followed, as statements from eyewitnesses said that the alleged killer fled the area on a bicycle.
Reports cited eyewitnesses and stated that the order of events likely included the victim being stopped while on his bike in a relatively deserted stretch of the road. Subsequently, an argument broke out, following which the attacker used a sharp stick or weapon to attack the victim, killing him on the spot.

Following the murder, the attacker fled the spot, leaving the deceased lying in a pool of blood next to his bike. Locals then informed police, who arrived at the spot, recovered the body, and took stock of the situation.
Prima facie, police termed the eyewitness statements as rumours and stated that a proper investigation into the matter would be conducted. “A crowd has gathered here, and different people have different details of the nature of the attack. We will follow a course of action after a scientific team arrives at the spot,” said Bolangir SDPO.
