A shocking murder has rocked Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, with the death of a local builder allegedly linked to a long-standing property dispute. The deceased, Sasmit Biswal, also known as Chinu, was reportedly murdered near Pradhan Sahi under the jurisdiction of Airfield Police Station. His family members and relatives have accused miscreants of killing him over a conflict related to land possession.
According to preliminary investigations, Sasmit had gone to a disputed plot for a possession-related matter. There, he was allegedly attacked and murdered by assailants, after which his body was dumped in the cashew forest area on the outskirts of the city. His body was later discovered and sent for post-mortem examination.
Lingaraj, brother of the deceased said, “The villagers used to harass my brother. My brother always used to name three to four brothers who used to seek extortion. A boundary wall was constructed and they lodged a false complaint against him. The dispute was going on since long. We learnt that they have beaten my brother to death.”
Sources in the police department revealed that Sasmit was previously in a business partnership with Tulu Mohanty, a resident of the same locality, Pradhan Sahi. However, the partnership reportedly soured over a property disagreement, which became the central motive of the murder, as per early findings.
Bhubaneswar DCP said, “FIR was registered against 7 persons. We have arrested 3 persons on Friday night. It has been found that there was a land dispute over a property. Earlier, they were partners in the real estate business.”
The police have stated that at least seven individuals are suspected to be involved in the crime. As of last night, three persons have been arrested and are currently being interrogated in connection with the case.
The incident has sparked tension in the locality, with residents demanding strict action against those involved in the killing. The case has now been taken up as a priority investigation, and senior police officials have been deployed to monitor progress.
Meanwhile, the bereaved family is demanding justice and speedy trial, urging authorities to bring all perpetrators to book without delay. As the investigation deepens, this incident has once again brought focus to the increasing number of real estate-related disputes turning violent in urban Odisha.
