Low pressure-induced heavy rainfall in Odisha from August 12
Odisha is likely to witness an increase in rainfall from the 12th of this month under the influence of a low-pressure area.
Many parts of the state have reportedly recorded light to moderate rainfall in the past 24 hours, with the highest of 90 mm reported from Aska in Ganjam district.
As per the observation by the India Meteorological Department, a cyclonic circulation has been currently formed, which may cause rough sea conditions along the Bangladesh coast, West Bengal, and adjoining areas. The Meteorological Department has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea.
As per the prediction by IMD, Puri is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. Heavy rainfall is expected in Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, and Keonjhar districts. Moreover, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and wind speed of 30–40 km per hour are also predicted in these districts

"A cyclonic circulation has been formed over Bangladesh, the West Bengal coast and the north-west Bay of Bengal. A fresh low-pressure area is likely to be formed over the north-west and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal around August 13. Under its influence, rainfall activities across Odisha will increase. All the districts of Odisha will experience rain," said Manorama Mohanty, Director of IMD’s Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar.
