Kalinga Ghat road washed away again after cloudburst
Torrential rains due to a cloudburst have once again washed away the Kalinga Ghat road in Kandhamal district on Monday.
As per reports, intense rainwater gushing down from the hills has damaged the repair works and swept away construction materials such as stones, sand, and gravel.
Following the landslide, road communication between Kandhamal and Ganjam districts has been completely cut off.
A week ago, a major landslide occurred in Kalinga Ghat, bringing traffic to a complete standstill. Continuous rainfall loosened the soil on the hillside, sending massive boulders and mud deposits tumbling onto the road. Vehicles remain stranded on both sides, with commuters facing long delays and severe inconvenience.

Though the district administration carried out the repair work on a war footing, the base was washed away once again in the torrential rains due to cloudburst.
As per the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials, repair work in the region is not possible until the rain subsides completely. Massive rocks and debris from the nearby hill have been tumbling down onto the road, posing a danger to the lives of the workers.
The incident has heightened concerns over safety in the region. The situation serves as a reminder of the urgent need for long-term slope protection measures in vulnerable ghats of Odisha.
