‘Shun drugs and adopt a healthy lifestyle,’ is a simple message that 66-year-old, Abhiram Satapathy is spreading. And to accomplish that, he has undertaken a rather unusual journey.
He has set out from his village Durlaga in Jharsuguda for Thimphu in Bhutan through Kathmandu. He will cover the entire trip (to and fro) of 3000 kms on foot and spread the message.
Satapathy had begun his journey on May 25 and has already covered 600 kms in 21 days to reach Bahanaga in Balasore via Nemal (his birthplace) in Cuttack.
Speaking to OTV, Satapathy said, “I want our youths to stay away from drugs and keep themselves fit by exercising daily. My destination is Bhutan through Kathmandu. I will return to Jharsuguda via Bihar.”
“People should focus on their inner beauty too. They should adopt a lifestyle that helps them become beautiful from the inside as much from the outside,” Satapathy said.
Satapathy could be seen spreading awareness by speaking to people he meets during his journey.
A passerby listening to Satapathy’s message said, “He (Satapathy) is an inspiration. He is walking 3000 kms even at the age of 66. There are a lot of things to learn from him. He wants to educate the youths on the evils of drug addiction.”
“It is a noble cause. And I hope he succeeds in motivating as many youths as possible,” he added.
