Is there cyclone threat to Odisha during Dussehra? IMD DG clears air

A low pressure area is likely to form over the North Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood by October 4, informed Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mrutyunjay Mohapatra on Wednesday.

According to Mohapatra, a trough runs from the cyclonic circulation over southeast Bangladesh and its neighbourhood to the North Andaman Sea across the Myanmar coast. 

It will turn into a low pressure near the coast of West Bengal and Odisha after slowly moving in west-north-east direction, said the IMD DG.

Subsequently, the low pressure is less likely to intensify into a depression or a cyclonic storm.

“The low pressure will cross Odisha coast and there is no possibility of any kind of cyclone threat to the State. However, under the influence of the low pressure, only north Odisha will experience rain on Friday,” said IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra.
