India-Pakistan tensions: From Jagannath Temple to Hirakud Dam, list of places where security tighten
The tensions between India and Pakistan have been escalating despite calls for de-escalation from all quarters. Things are getting out of hand as Pakistan continues shelling along the bordering areas in Jammu & Kashmir and Rajasthan.
Earlier, India identified 244 districts across the country, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chandigarh, for mock drills codenamed ‘Operation Abhyas’.
These districts were designated as civil defence districts based on threat perception. The maximum number of such districts (32) was in West Bengal, followed by Rajasthan (28), Assam (20), Punjab (20), and J&K (20).
Odisha is also actively participating in this nationwide drill, with exercises being scheduled in 12 districts, including Bhubaneswar, Khordha, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Puri, Koraput, Sundargarh, and Angul.
Security Tightened in Several Places in Odisha
Amid the tensions between India and Pakistan, security has been tightened at many places like Jagannath Temple in Puri; the capital city Bhubaneswar, a hub of governance and infrastructure; Asia’s largest Hirakud Dam, a vital water and power source; Paradip Port, the lifeline of maritime trade; and DRDO’s missile testing range at Chandipur, crucial for national defense, among others.
Besides, there are reports of tightened security measures at the Paradip Port, crucial for trade and naval operations; the Army Air Defence College, Gopalpur; and the Power stations in Talcher, critical for electricity supply across Odisha.
