Gold jewellery polishing racket busted in Rourkela

As many as nine members of a gang were arrested on charges of looting people on the pretext of polishing gold jewellery in Rourkela.

It has been learnt that all the members of the gang are from Bhagalpur area in Bihar and they have robbed several people in the Steel City and other areas of Sundargarh district in the last three years.

Gold weighing 103 gram, eight mobile phones and three bikes were seized from their possession.

As per police sources, they were stealing gold by using different chemicals while polishing ornaments.

“The gang was active in the area for the last three years. After proper monitoring in the area, we got some clues. Based on those clues, the culprits were arrested,” said Western Range Police DIG Brijesh Rai.

“The culprits are involved in as many as 21 cases in the area. Some local people were helping them and we have also started an investigation in this connection. We are hopeful that we will be able to return the looted gold to the victims soon. We have also seized different types of chemicals from the looteras,” he added.
