The fish and prawn mixture in ready-to-eat chip packets at the Bhubaneswar Fish and Animal Husbandry Convention
In an innovative approach, entrepreneurs from Odisha’s Ganjam have come forth with seafood mixture packets, which are not only loaded with calcium and essential fats but are also available in easy-to-buy packets like any other commercially sold chips.
The product is currently being showcased at the three-day-long Fish and Animal Husbandry Convention in Bhubaneswar, which began on Friday. Made in the seaside Gokharakuda village of Ganjam, the uniqueness of the fish and prawn mixture chips drew large crowds on the first day of the exhibition, with many stating that it was the first time that they had come across such a product.
The owners of the exhibit detailed that their product boosts the local economy and brings the goodness of authentic seafood to people with the easiest possible way of consumption. They also added that the fish mixture chips are essentially small fish, which are often regarded as a very good source of calcium, omega-3 fatty acids, and protein.

“Gokharakuda is a village whose entire economy depends on fishing. However, while large fish are sold readily, small fish and prawns often end up unsold. We procure these from the local fishermen and process them in our factories in ready-to-eat packets,” said a representative of the company exhibiting the product.
The fish and prawn chips packets showcased at the convention were listed for commercial sale starting from Rs 10 and also had a shelf life of six months. Further, they were also wholly procured, processed, and retailed in Odisha, sparking the curiosity of many at the fair.

“Small fish is a very healthy form of protein and is recommended for many people, including those with diabetes. I am amazed how they have managed to sell these fish as chips packets. I will definitely encourage such innovative ideas,” stated a Bhubaneswar resident who tasted the fish and prawn mixture chips.
Notably, the three-day Fish and Animal Husbandry Convention in Bhubaneswar started at Baramunda playground on Friday.
