Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi
The first phase of the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail project will be completed by December 2027, informed Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi on Saturday.
After a review meeting, Sarangi said that the metro trains would run for 26 km distance in the first phase.
Sarangi stated that there will be 20 stations in the first phase and all these stations will showcase Odisha’s rich culture and heritage. She further said that as many as 13 trains will run in the first phase and each train will have three coaches. Every day, 95,000 people are expected to travel in the metro.

“The project will be built with an estimated to be Rs 6,256 Cr. The required 92 acres of land have already been acquired. More land of 15 acres will be provided soon. The State government will completely bear the expenditure in the first phase. Then it will be estimated whether assistance from the centre is required or not,” said Sarangi.
“I reviewed the progress of the project. The phase one work has started. It got the DPR approval from the then government in November 2023. The metro trains will run for 26 km distance and there will be 20 stations in the first phase. As many as 13 trains with three coaches each will run in the first phase. Three stations will be built in Ekamara, four stations in Central Bhubaneswar and 10 stations in North Bhubaneswar. Moreover, three stations will be set up in Cuttack. The work has been undertaken considering usage by 95,000 people per day,” she added.
