The Odisha unit of Congress on Saturday opposed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah’s Odisha visit.

Protesting against the Prime Minister and the Home Minister’s Odisha visit, the members of the grand old party’s student wing took out a rally from the Congress Bhawan to the Lok Seva Bhawan.

While marching towards the Lok Seva Bhawan, they shouted slogans voicing discontent over declining law and order and the increasing unemployment rates in the state.

The demonstration saw a tense moment as numerous Chhatra Congress activists attempted to breach the police barricades put up on Gandhi Marg, leading to the police detaining several protestors.

“We sought answers on the declining law and order situation from the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. In the state, blacklisted companies are being roped in, putting the lives of people in danger. Efforts are being made to suppress our voices. But our strike will continue till PM Modi and Amit Shah give assurance by when the law and order situation in the state will be under control,” said Yasir Nawaz, former Chhatra Congress president.

On the other hand, Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan termed the protest demonstration as unfortunate.

“Congress’ ploy to go against the country, to go against development and to go against people is leading it astray. A glaring example is when Odisha is drawing the attention of the entire country, they are staging demonstrations, giving hateful statements against the Prime Minister and the Home Minister,” said Harichandan.

“Even if seeing through a microscope, it is hard to find the sign of Congress’ existence. The senior leaders of the party should look into it and stop the party from being ruined and, at least try to keep the party afloat,” he added.
