Firing at Rourkela Dhaba owner: Police open fire at accused, arrest 3

Three were arrested post-firing at a Dhaba in Rourkela, Sundargarh district, in connection with a firing and loot incident. Baneswar Singh and Sibanath Singh injured in police exchange. Authorities stress 'zero tolerance' for crime. A detailed probe is underway.

Firearm seized by police from the crime spot

Police arrested three individuals on Friday following a firing at a roadside eatery (Dhaba) owner late last night in Rourkela of Sundargarh district. Two of the accused were injured during an exchange of fire with law enforcement, while the third was taken into custody without firing.

According to sources, the two injured, Baneswar Singh and Sibanath Singh, along with six others, were dining at the Dugru Dhaba located under Bisra police limits. Later, they looted around Rs 20,000 at gunpoint. This act was opposed by the victim Dhaba owner. Upon protesting the theft, the owner was shot by the assailants.

Commenting on the incident, the Superintendent of Police in Rourkela said, “There will be ‘zero tolerance’ towards criminal activities,” highlighting the authorities’ firm stance on crime prevention.

Police open fire in 'self-defence'!

“The IIC (Bisra Police Station) was informed last night at around 11.00 PM that eight armed miscreants had gone to a Dhaba on two motorcycles. They had a motive of loot, and they opened fire while committing the crime,” Rourkela SP Nitesh Wadhwani said.

“During a search operation, we opened fire in self-defence at four accused, and two of them sustained injuries. A detailed probe is still underway, and the absconding persons will be apprehended soon,” the SP stated in a presser.

“On being informed, police rushed to the spot and the miscreants were chased. When they opened fire at the police team, the cops fired back in self-defence. Proper action as per law will be taken against them, and the remaining five will be nabbed soon,” Northern Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) Himanshu Lal expressed.
