Fake tyres seized by Jagatpur police in Cuttack
Police unearthed an extensive stockpile of counterfeit tyres following a raid on a manufacturing unit in Jagatpur locality in Cuttack City on Thursday. The unit operating near Birupa Bridge led to the seizure of a huge cache of automotive and bicycle tyres.
According to sources, the fake manufacturing unit’s owner was apprehended for distributing these tyres under a well-known brand’s name, which sparked the arrests. Law enforcement officials from Jagatpur Police Station are interrogating the suspect to ascertain more details about the illegal operation. The estimated value of seized tyres in the open market would be several lakhs of rupees.
The discovery has raised concerns about counterfeit goods in the region, highlighting the necessity for increased vigilance in guarding against such activities.
“The owner of this fake manufacturing unit had started selling the duplicate tyres across Odisha through agents. He sold the bi-cycle tyres at only Rs 120, which usually costs around Rs 350. This gradually came to my knowledge and I lodged an FIR,” the complainant stated.
“Original tyres have the embossed company name; whereas, the duplicate ones have only stickers on them. In addition, the original tyres possess our registration number as well as trademark,” the complainant expressed.
“Poor people from rural areas purchase these duplicate tyres at cheaper rates but bear the brunt after 7-8 days. Our market was thereby affected,” the complainant added.
“Acting on an FIR, we raided the unit. We will submit a detailed report to our SP and DCP after the raid is over. We have detained the owner of this unit,” Jagatpur police station IIC said.
