Signage put up on the encroachment-free land
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) in Puri town challenged land encroachment and issued a notice asserting the ownership of Nebala Das Matha (a mutt) on Friday near the local bus stand in Talabania, which was allegedly encroached.
According to official sources, the notice, put up after allegations of unauthorised occupation surfaced, warned that trespassing is subject to legal consequences. At the centre of the dispute are around 50 decimals of land located near Srigundicha temple in Talabania, falling under Khata Number-791 and spread over six plots.
This land is said to have been fenced off unlawfully. Following the allegations, preliminary inquiries were conducted by the Srimandir Administrator (Development) along with the local Tehsildar. The issue has been formally lodged with Kumbharapada Police Station.
Puri Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinit Agrawal has indicated that a thorough probe will ensue, engaging all relevant parties, with subsequent measures to be determined based on the findings.
“We were tipped off that some persons had encroached on a patch of land and are illegally trying to dispose of the same. They had plotted the land to sell to different parties,” Puri Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain stated.
“Swinging into action, a joint team comprising the SJTA, revenue officials, and local police reached the spot and identified the land. A signage was put up mentioning the land belongs to Lord Jagannath and is managed by SJTA,” the District Collector expressed.
“Executive Magistrate has imposed Section 163 of BNS and trespasser(s) will be prosecuted. A simultaneous investigation is underway and criminal action will be taken against the person(s) who will disobey the prohibitory order,” Collector Swain added.
