Doppler radar installation to transform weather forecasting in Sambalpur

Odisha has taken a significant step in enhancing its meteorological forecasting capabilities with the installation of a Doppler radar at Jamadarpali, Sambalpur, which commenced on Sunday. The project, inaugurated by Odisha's Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management, Suresh Pujari, is slated for completion within six months, with an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore.

This sophisticated radar technology is set to improve forecasting accuracy across a 250-kilometre radius, providing crucial early warnings to communities in the region. Minister Suresh Pujari highlighted its significance, stating, "This radar will substantially improve our capabilities to anticipate and tackle weather-related challenges."

"The Centre has provided us with the Doppler radar. The technical design has been completed in consultation with the Weather Designing Department of the Union Government and Odisha's Disaster Management Department. The work order has been issued, and the installation will be completed within six months," noted Pujari.
