Doctor duped of Rs 75000 in cyber fraud in Odisha

Dr. Srimadhab Sethy of Dhamnagar Community Health Centre lost Rs 75,000 to a cyber fraud in Odisha's Bhadrak. He filed complaints at local and cyber police.

Doctor duped of Rs 75000 in cyber fraud in Bhadrak

A doctor in Dhamnagar Community Health Centre allegedly lost Rs 75,000 by falling prey to a cyber fraud in Odisha's Bhadrak on Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as Srimadhab Sethy. The doctor has lodged a complaint in this connection at Dhamnagar police station and with the cyber police.

As per the complaint by Sethy, he got a phone call from an unknown number when he was treating patients at the hospital. The caller claimed to have known the doctor and said that one of his relatives was admitted to the medical. 

The caller further said that he is not able to send money to the account of his relative and hence he has sent Rs 75,000 to the doctor’s account. He requested the doctor to send the money to the number in the Google Pay screenshot that was sent to his WhatsApp.

Subsequently, the doctor sent the amount without checking his account. However, to his utter shock and dismay, he found after his duty that Rs 75,000 was not sent to his account by the caller. Following the development, he realised that he had become a victim of cyber fraud. Subsequently, he lodged a complaint in this regard at Dhamnagar police station and with the cyber police.

Meanwhile, the doctor has admitted that he became the victim of cyber fraud due to his foolish act.

“I became the victim of cyber fraud unfortunately due to my foolish act. I couldn’t check my account before sending money due to my negligence and busy duty hours. I am hopeful that cyber police will help me get back my money and nab the fraudster,” said Srimadhab Sethy.
