Divorced couple found hanging from tree in Odisha’s Khordha
A young man and woman were found hanging from a tree in Goudapatana village under Begunia block of Khordha district on Thursday morning by allegedly using a dupatta (scarf) to end their lives.
Sources reported that the individuals were believed to be residents of the Sunakhala area, located not far from the village where their bodies were discovered.
Discovery and Police Response
The local police were alerted after a scooter was found abandoned by the roadside near the incident site. Upon investigation, officers discovered the couple’s bodies hanging from a tree with a single piece of cloth tied around their necks.
Jankia Police reached the scene promptly and have since seized the bodies for post-mortem examination.

Initial Findings
Preliminary information suggested that the young man worked at a garage in Sunakhala Bazaar, while the woman ran a beauty parlour in the same marketplace. Further reports also suggested that the duo were linked to each other through an earlier marriage that had ended in divorce. They had since married other people, added sources.
The couple had reportedly sought to re-establish connections between them, and a meeting in the presence of family elders was supposed to take place today. However, the exact cause that led them to end their lives is not known yet. The deceased are survived by children from their existing marriages.
Investigation Underway
As of now, the cause of death appears to be suicide, though no suicide note has been found. The police have registered a case of unnatural death and have begun an investigation to uncover the motive behind the incident.
