Diarrhea breaks out in Bolangir village, four critical

As many as four persons from Chhatamakhana village under Puintala block in Bolangir district have been admitted to a hospital in critical condition following diarrhea outbreak in the village.

According to sources, the health condition of four people in the village worsened and they were admitted to the Bhima Bhoi Medical College in Bolangir for treatment after a suspected diarrhoea outbreak.

Allegations surfaced that the four people along with several others were affected by diarrhoea due to consumption of contaminated water. Subsequently, the water supply to the village has been suspended until further notice.

Taking note of the matter, the Bolangir Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) directed a medical team to take stock of the matter. Following this, health officials reached the village and conducted blood sample tests while also providing healthcare services. It is alleged that people have been affected by diarrhoea due to the consumption of contaminated water.

It is pertinent to note that around the same time last year, Bolangir was also gripped by fears of a diarrhoea outbreak. At that time, Two people had lost their lives at Kantabanji village in the district due to suspected diarrhoea, two others were critical, and at least 10 more faced symptoms with severe vomiting and loose motion.

Notably, another major possible contamination of potable water was reported from Sanakhemundi of Ganjam district about a week ago when a dead snake was discovered in a community water tank.
