Bargarh Dhanu Yatra: Odisha govt sanctions over Rs 12.79 Crore for permanent ‘Raj Mahal’

Odisha government has sanctioned more than Rs 12.79 crore for a permanent ‘Raj Mahal’ to enhance Bargarh’s Dhanu Yatra, the world’s largest open-air theatre. This move aims to elevate the festival’s grandeur and prosperity, benefiting the local community.

In a joyful announcement for the residents of Bargarh district, a permanent palace (Raj Mahal) will be constructed for the world's largest open-air theatre, Dhanu Yatra. Odisha government has allocated a fund of more than Rs 12.79 crore for the project, sources said on Sunday.

This was communicated via an official letter from the State Tourism Department. Bargarh MLA Ashwini Kumar Sarangi also shared the information on his ‘X’ account.

MLA Sarangi has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida for their support. He mentioned that this initiative would elevate both the grandeur and prosperity of the globally acclaimed festival.

As per the proposal, Raj Mahal is to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 12,79,31,900 on the playground of Nishamani High School in Bargarh town.

Moreover, the sanction has been accorded as per administrative approval. The project will be executed by adhering to relevant plan, estimate, drawing prepared for the purpose.

Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) of the Department is authorised to draw and disburse the amount to the executing agency in shape of transfer either through NEFT or Bank Draft. Quarterly Progress Report and Expenditure Statement are required to be submitted to the Department of Tourism and accounts of the project are to be kept open for AG audit.

The ownership of the assets after completion shall be with Govt. of Odisha.

Worth mentioning, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi earlier visited the designated demon king Kansa’s durbar (court) by riding a caparisoned elephant on January 12. He had announced for the construction of a permanent Raj Mahal for Bargarh Dhanu Yatra.
