Odisha government increases fund for Bargarh's world-famous Dhanu Yatra to Rs 1 crore
The world-famous Dhanu Yatra of Bargarh, which will begin on January 3 and continue till January 13, 2025, is all set to become even more magnificent and vibrant this time, as the Odisha government on Saturday announced significant enhancements for the festival.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi announced several initiatives on his Facebook page, generating enthusiasm among the residents of Bargarh as well as Odisha.
The grant for the festival has been increased from Rs 10 lakhs to Rs 1 crore. This change will not only make the total experience worthwhile but also respect the artistes who are involved with the event, it was observed.
As many as 170 notable artists will be awarded a commendation amount of Rs 10,000 each in appreciation of their talent and hard work.
Most importantly, a special committee has been constituted to get UNESCO heritage status for the Dhanu Yatra, which is claimed to be the biggest open-air theatre in the world.
To provide information about the festival to all, a website has been created, which provides complete information for both visitors and locals.
For the first time, the Dhanu Yatra will be telecast live across various locations in Odisha. LED TVs would be installed at public places of those areas so that more people can participate and enjoy the festivities.
It is worth mentioning that Bhubaneswar Pradhan has been selected as the new Kansa for the Bargarh Dhanu Yatra, surpassing three other artistes in an audition held by the committee on December 1.
Pradhan will portray the mythological character in the 77th edition of the festival, renowned as the largest open-air theatre event.
As the preparations come to fruition, the people of Bargarh can't wait. The Dhanu Yatra, a lively celebration of culture and tradition, promises to be an experience that no one will ever forget this year, unifying communities and showcasing the rich heritage of Odisha.
