Deployment of bouncers at Puri Loknath temple spark controversy
Questions have surfaced regarding the deployment of bouncers on the occasion of Mahashivratri celebration at the Loknath Temple in Puri on Wednesday.
This issue has reportedly emerged even though the police and local administration had established measures to control crowds and ensure the safety of devotees. Puri’s Superintendent of Police (SP) stated that an investigation into the deployment of bouncers is currently underway.
There have been reports of bouncers allegedly mishandling common devotees within the temple’s premises. Following these allegations, the police have summoned and questioned the bouncers involved to ascertain their involvement and actions.
The authorities have made comprehensive arrangements for crowd management, particularly for the Mahashivratri celebration, which is expected to attract a large number of worshippers to the Loknath shrine. This included setting up barricades to facilitate orderly movements and ensure the safety of the devotees.

The main concern revolves around who authorised the bouncers and what their specific roles and responsibilities were at the temple.
According to Puri SP Vinit Agrawal, this situation is being thoroughly investigated to maintain transparency and accountability.
Notably, the ritual of lifting ‘Mahadipa’ (grand lamp) atop the temple will be observed at Puri’s famed Loknath Temple at 3 am.
A large number of devotees is expected to gather around the temple to illuminate lamps, pray for the welfare of their families and loved ones, and seek the divine blessings of Lord Mahadev.
