Police raid team with seized explosives
A police probe team raided different houses on Sunday leading to the seizure of a huge cache of gunpowder, in connection with the previous incident of a firecracker explosion that occurred in Badabagh village of Jagatsinghpur district.
According to sources, the police team accompanied by a Magistrate, conducted thorough searches in the village, seizing the explosive materials and equipment used for making firecrackers. The valuation of the explosives has not been ascertained yet.
When contacted, Jagatsinghpur IIC Pravas Ranjan Sahoo said, “We had registered a criminal case in connection with the earlier firecracker explosion incident and launched a detailed probe yesterday. Accordingly, we raided the village and seized explosives including several other materials used for preparing firecrackers.”
“Two died in the incident and two more are undergoing treatment in critical condition. We have not yet arrested anyone in the case,” the IIC Sahoo expressed.
“We will diffuse the explosives and destroy other seized materials,” the IIC added.
Worth mentioning, the firecracker explosion had claimed the lives of two villagers and left two others critically injured. The incident occurred on Friday night as fireworks were being prepared, destroying the deceased's house.
The deceased had been identified as Rajesh Das and his wife Rani Das, both residents of Badabagh. Rajesh's younger brother, Paresh Das, and his wife Laxmipriya Das were gravely injured and are presently undergoing treatment in critical condition.
The explosion had caused significant damage to their house, with parts of the roof and walls destroyed by the powerful blast.
