Odisha Assault Case: Indian Army Major, his fiancee meet CM Majhi; impartial probe assured

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi met an Indian Army Major, his fiancee, and her father at the Loka Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Monday regarding an alleged police brutality case. Majhi assured an impartial probe and strict action against those found guilty.

Indian Army Major, his fiancee meet CM Majhi

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday met an Indian Army Major, his fiancee, and her father at the Loka Seva Bhawan, Bhubaneswar in the alleged police brutality case and assured an impartial probe into the incident.

Majhi held a brief discussion with the three and assured of strict action against those found guilty. Also present at the meeting were Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan, Deputy CM KV Singh Deo, and Minister Suresh Pujari among others.

After meeting the CM, the Army Major’s fiancee said, “Mohan Majhi has proved that he is a people’s Chief Minister in the true sense. He is in a true sense a people’s man. Thank You.”

“Today, after meeting the CM where he gave me a patient audience and hearing, he has heard all my grievances and till date my complaint remains those 7 Bhatapur Police officials who wronged me & molested me. He has assured me with a judicial inquiry that I will be given justice...I told him that I could face possible threats because already the Police officials have come there twice and intimidated my staff,” ANI quoted her.

She further added, “So, I also told him about the same episode. He assured me that if the need be, in future protection would be provided to run a simple way of restaurant...He has assured and ensured that in the future, women are going to be absolutely safe in this state and zero tolerance towards any wrongdoings towards women will be taken...With all these words that he has promised me, I do feel relaxed. I will be happy when the justice will be provided to me through this judicial inquiry. I am happy that he gave me a patient hearing.”

On the other hand, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan slammed the Opposition for politicizing the sensitive issue. 

“The reaction that the Opposition is showing to the incident, they should look back to what they did during their regime,” the Law Minister said.

Meanwhile, the Odisha government has also ordered a judicial probe into the incident monitored by the High Court. On the other hand, the High Court has directed not to reveal the name of the Army officer, and his fiancee and release their pictures on electronics, print, and social media platforms.
