Two days after the head of Ambapal village in Odisha’s Angul district died after he was allegedly administered a poisonous injection, the Angul Sadar police along with a scientific team and dog squad began a probe into the mysterious murder.

The deceased has been identified as Balakrushna Nayak. A preliminary probe suggests it to be a case of previous enmity, however, nothing has been ascertained as of yet.

The probe team reached the village of the deceased on Monday and talked to villagers to unravel the mystery behind the murder. The cops have recovered two syringes used to inject Nayak with poison. They have also recovered a handwritten note from his room.

The note reads, "Dear President, become a martyr for the village. I warned you to stay away from me. It was on January 25 and today the target has been fulfilled."

According to police, Nayak on Saturday night was asleep after dinner when three miscreants strayed into his house and injected him with poison and fled.

Family members spotted him writhing in pain and rushed him to Angul District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). After preliminary treatment, he was referred to Cuttack-based SCB Medical College and Hospital for further treatment.

However, Nayak succumbed en route to Cuttack. His death has sent a shockwave across the village.
