Commissionerate Police bust major ganja smuggling racket, 5 arrested with over 1 quintal in Bhubaneswar

Acting on a tip-off, the Commissionerate Police on Sunday successfully busted a major ganja smuggling racket and seized over 1 quintal of marijuana from a vehicle. Police have also seized a luxury vehicle used for transporting illegal marijuana.

Based on a crucial piece of intelligence, officers set up a surveillance operation and the special task force halted the car near Tamando. In a bid to evade capture, the suspects attempted to escape towards a playground in the village of Baliapada. However, police officers detained all five individuals, thwarting their escape plan.

Officials disclosed that the vehicle contained over a quintal of cannabis, approximately 100 kilograms. The suspects have been taken into custody for comprehensive questioning to uncover further details about their smuggling network.

All the five smugglers are currently in custody and are undergoing thorough questioning.

"This is a significant step in our ongoing efforts to eradicate drug trafficking in the region," a police spokesperson stated.
