Mangalpur Police probing the dacoity
In a distressing event captured on CCTV, six armed miscreants barged into the house of Prabhat Das on Thursday night at Botalatanga village under Mangalpur Police limits in Jajpur district. The dacoits decamped with valuables worth lakhs of rupees.
The footage showed these attackers entering the house at around 9.00 PM, wielding weapons and terrifying the family members by aiming guns and discharging blank rounds of gunshots to threaten them.
“I was busy in household works when they (the six dacoits) entered our house. One of them caught my throat tightly and brandished a firearm. Later, he threatened me and other members of the family by opening blank fire,” Mandodari Das said.
“Gold chains weighing more than 30 grams, four mobile phones and several other valuables have been looted,” the elderly woman stated.
With substantial loot amounting to lakhs of rupees, the robbers fled the scene, leaving the Das family shaken by the armed dacoity.
Police personnel arrived shortly after the burglars escaped, and an official investigation into the robbery is now underway.
“An armed robbery took place when female members alone were present in the house. A mobile phone has been recovered. We have registered a case and initiated a probe, which is underway,” Jajpur sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Prashant Majhi said.
The incident has left the local community unsettled, as many are gripped by fear following the release of the alarming CCTV footage.
Residents in the village expressed deep concerns regarding their personal security, feeling unsafe even in their own homes.
