Over 20 women devotees were allegedly robbed on Sunday while taking a holy dip at the famous Papakhya Ghat in Binka, Sonepur, Bolangir.

Over 20 women devotees were allegedly robbed on Sunday while taking a holy dip at the famous Papakhya Ghat in Binka, Sonepur, Bolangir.

According to reports, the miscreants stole mobile phones and cash worth nearly Rs 15,000 from the group in a single incident. The thieves also fled with the keys to their vehicle, leaving the women stranded at the ghat.

The victims, who had come from Belpara in Bolangir, later lodged complaints with the police. The incident has raised serious concerns about security arrangements during religious gatherings in the region.

Crowds Gather After Lunar Eclipse

Following the lunar eclipse on Sunday, thousands of devotees had gathered at the ghat to take a holy dip. The high influx of visitors may have provided opportunities for the criminals to carry out the thefts.

Repeated Incidents, No Arrests

According to reports, several such incidents have occurred in the recent past. However, police have yet to make any arrests in connection with these cases.

Investigation Underway

In the latest case, authorities have not yet established the number of looters involved or their whereabouts. Police have launched an investigation into the matter, but no arrests have been made so far.

The incidents have raised concerns about the security of devotees during large gatherings at the ghat.
