Crime scene being recreated in Bhubaneswar
Commissionerate Police-Bhubaneswar recreated the crime scene on Monday in the murder case of local builder Sasmit Biswal (nickname Chinu). The key accused, Debadatta Parida, was taken to the cashew forest near Jamukoli under the Airfield Police limits.
According to sources, the Airfield Police have taken major steps in the ongoing investigation in connection with the murder of builder Sasmit Biswal. The crime scene was recreated with the prime accused Debadatta to gather more information about the crime.
Crime scene recreation was carried out after the prime accused, who had been absconding for a long time since committing the crime, recently surrendered before a court.
The key accused was brought on remand and taken to the crime spot for reconstruction of the events surrounding the incident. Police are aiming to establish the sequence of events and verify the accused’s statements.
The incident dates back to April 11, when Biswal was brutally beaten to death.
Earlier, five persons, including a home guard, were arrested in connection with the case. The latest development marks a significant progress in solving the high-profile murder.
The probe is still underway, with police not ruling out the involvement of more individuals.
“We have seized the weapon of offense from the prime accused following his confessional statement. The weapon was earlier hidden by him in a deserted house. We will send the incriminating instrument to SFSL (State Forensic Science Laboratory-Odisha, Bhubaneswar) for chemical examination,” Airfield Police Station IIC said to OTV.
Worth mentioning, the deceased belonged to Bhimpur under the Airport police limits.
Sasmit was ambushed by a group of individuals while he was attempting to assert his claim over a piece of land and was trying to take the possession of it. The miscreants beat him to death and fled from the spot soon after committing the crime.
Following the attack, Sasmit was rescued by some locals and was rushed to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, where the hospital doctors had confirmed ‘he died before his arrival at the health facility’.
