The health condition of the newborn girl, who was recently rescued from a borewell at Laripali village under Sambalpur’s Rengali block on Tuesday, is now said to be stable.
However, she has infections caused by wounds she sustained inside the borewell iron pipe, informed VIMSAR Superintendent Lalmohan Nayak.
Speaking to OTV, Nayak said, “Her health condition has improved today. She is passing urine well and crying too. Her oral feeding has started as well.”
“However, she is still underweight and the next five to seven days are important for her,” Nayak said.
On the other hand, the Sambalpur district administration is keeping a close watch on the condition of the infant. The district child protection officer has sent an official to the VIMSAR to keep track of her health condition.
Meanwhile, police have intensified the investigation to ascertain the identity of the baby and to trace the person/s who dumped her into the abandoned borewell. Police are visiting villages and hamlets looking for clues.
As per reports, locals of Laripali came to know about the incident during the noon hours of December 12 after hearing the cries of the infant.
A team of fire personnel initially rushed to the spot and launched a massive rescue operation. Later, an ODRAF team joined the rescue operation.
The infant was stuck at around 15 to 20 ft depth inside the borewell. She was finally rescued from the borewell after eight hours of intense operation.
