Filmmaker Boney Kapoor speaking to media
Renowned Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor is set to venture into the Odia film industry, marking his first production in the regional language. Kapoor announced this development at a press conference held in Bhubaneswar, revealing his plans to contribute to the local film industry on Wednesday.
In a bid to foster the growth of the Odia film industry, Kapoor met with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi earlier in the day to discuss potential opportunities. He expressed enthusiasm about the wide array of filming locations available across the State, suggesting a promising collaboration between Odisha and the broader Indian film landscape.
“I have previously created films in different languages, and now I am keen to create one in Odia,” the noted filmmaker declared.
Kapoor's interest underscores a growing trend of Bollywood producers exploring diverse regional markets to create content that resonates with India's multicultural audiences. His planned projects in Odisha may stimulate economic growth through enhanced tourism and job creation within the region.
“I met the Chief Minister and he is very encouraging. Whatever needs to be done, I will be there. As a measure support system and whatever I can do, I will do to see that the Odia film industry also gets established in a manner where the other industries are. Today, we have the film industry in a big form in south, whether it is Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, or Telugu,” the eminent filmmaker said.
“Bengali film industry is also very strong. Punjabi and Gujarati film industries are growing. In Odisha, the film industry should come to the foreground. I have a thought in my mind, which I will be discussing with the authorities here, how this can be helped and how this can come into the big league of film industries,” the filmmaker added.
