A village’s brightest hope has turned into heartbreak. Dhankanal district’s Baidyakateni mourns the tragic and untimely death of 26-year-old Yadavendra Sahu, a postgraduate medical student at AIIMS Patna. His sudden demise has sparked grief, suspicion, and a call for justice.

The Odia MBBS student’s body reached his native village on Tuesday. Following the arrival, his family members alleged that the youth was killed for an unknown reason.

According to sources, the entire village of Baidyakateni under Nihalprasad police limits in the district is now in mourning after the body of the postgraduate medical student arrived from AIIMS Patna. Known as “Suna Pua” (golden boy) of the village, Yadavendra was seen as a beacon of hope, expected to return as a full-fledged doctor to serve his people.

Instead, his lifeless body returned four days after his untimely death. Villagers gathered in large numbers to pay their last respects, their eyes filled with tears.

Yadavendra’s mother, Sitarani, has alleged that her son was murdered. His death, initially believed to be a sudden occurrence, has now come under scrutiny after the family raised serious concerns.

The loss has sent shockwaves across the community, who had long cherished hopes of seeing one of their rise to prominence and return to uplift the village. That dream now lies buried with Yadavendra.

Patna Police are yet to confirm the cause of death, but calls for a thorough investigation are growing louder. No comments were received from the police in this regard.

“Police received a call that the inmate was not opening his room in hostel Number 5 since morning. His room was locked from the inside. Police immediately reached the spot, and other administrative officials were also called. They broke open the room door at around 1.00 PM. The youth was found lying on his bed. He was taken to the Emergency Ward, where doctors declared him brought ‘dead’,” SDPO (Phulwarisharif-1), Sushil Kumar, had said.

“No suicide note was found at the spot. The youth’s body has been sent to a hospital for post-mortem, and the exact cause of the death can only be ascertained after a report comes in,” SDPO Sushil Kumar had added.
