CM Mohan Majhi's swearing in ceremony
Even though the Mohan Majhi-led BJP government has delivered on its promises in its first six months in power, the Opposition is cornering it over issues like price rise in essential commodities like potatoes.
The BJP had formed the government in the state on June 12. Meanwhile, the Mohan Majhi-led BJP government has completed six months.
The government has kept many of its promises like Rs 50,000 to women under the Subhadra Yojana, the opening of Srimandir’s four gates and increasing paddy MSP to Rs 3100.
At the same time, for the first time, the DGP conference and Navy Day were organised successfully.
“The new government came to power on June 12. Six months have passed. We are progressing as per the commitments we made,” said Chief Minister Mohan Majhi.
Even though the government has kept some of its promises, the skyrocketing of essential commodities’ prices has become the cause of headache for the government. Making most of the situation, the Opposition is targeting the government over this.
“They have not done any one thing successfully. During these six months’ time, they have taken loans amounting to Rs 30,000-40,000 crore. During our time, it was less talk and more action. It is now more talk less action,” said BJD MLA Arun Sahoo.
Congress Legislative party leader Ramachandra Kadam too took a swipe at the government.
“They have forgotten whatever they had said, be it pension, free electricity, or chit fund,” said Kadam.
Taking the side of his government, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said, “The speed at which we are progressing, everything will be delivered. Take it from me that what we have done in these six months no Opposition party has courage to criticise us. We are satisfied that the progress is going on at perfect pace.”
The political experts said the government should also take action against corrupt leaders and officers.
“People wanted to see action against those who spent money from government exchequer by travelling in helicopters. During these six months, it seems the government is dragging its feet on taking action against them,” said political expert Prasanna Mohanty.
