In a candid confession, Opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Arun Sahoo candidly admitted that the party got defeated in the last 2024 General Elections in Odisha due to an inflated ego.

Arun shared his insights during a meeting with party workers in Raygada on Thursday, attributing the setback to the party’s complacency and overconfidence.

“There was internal conflict between party workers during the election. Ego was inflated after remaining in power for 24 years. As a result, we overestimated ourselves. This could be the reason why we got defeated in the last General Elections and were relegated from the ruling party to the opposition,” said Arun.

Speaking with determination, Arun emphasised that despite this setback, the party remains undeterred. He appealed for unity within the BJD.

“There is nothing to be frustrated. If we let go of internal dissatisfaction and conflicts, BJD will surely return to power,” said Arun.

Arun’s words highlighted a call for introspection and renewal within the party ranks.

In response, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) critiqued the BJD, highlighting the role of the electorate in deciding political fortunes.

“Victories and defeats are determined by popular choice. People wanted to bring BJP to power and hence they voted in favour of the party,” said BJP MLA Saroj Padhi.

Padhi further criticised the BJD’s reliance on financial resources over genuine voter support.

“BJD had nothing except money. They don’t have leaders. They are only reliant on financial resources,” said Padhi.
