KIIT students from Nepal sent to Cuttack as per a notice
Hours after the alleged suicide of a third-year B. Tech girl student at the KIIT University hostel premises in Bhubaneswar on Sunday evening, the institution’s management has reportedly taken a controversial step by ordering all international students from Nepal to vacate the premises immediately.
Sources reported that almost all the students from Nepal, specifically those from the Mechanical Engineering Department, were hastily forced to pack up and board buses. They were forced into the University buses and subsequently taken to the Cuttack railway station from where they were ordered to leave for their respective homes.
A copy of the notice dated 17th February and issued from the Office of the KIIT University Registrar stated “The University is closed Sine Die for all the International students from Nepal. They are hereby directed to vacate the university campus immediately today on 17th February 2025.”
The abruptness of the decision caught the international students off guard and chaos prevailed both outside the university campus in Bhubaneswar and the Cuttack railway station. Shockingly, the students were made to head for their homes without any tickets or accommodation for their travel leaving them in severe distress.
“No train tickets or any directions have been provided to us. We were just loaded up on the hostel buses, sent to Cuttack and ordered to leave for our homes at the earliest,” claimed a student from Nepal.
Meanwhile, many also alleged that the girl who took her own life had reached out to International Relations (IR) of the University for help, regarding extreme mental distress but was not offered any help. The girl, identified as Prakriti Lamsal, ultimately took her own life last evening owing to mental pressure, fellow students have alleged.
