Chaos at KIIT University after girl student from Nepal found dead in hostel
Chaos and tension continued to rise at the KIIT University campus on Monday morning after a female student from Nepal allegedly took her own life on the hostel promises last evening. The whole university campus echoed with slogans of 'We Want Justice' by the students who demanded transparency in the girl's death probe.
Amid widespread protests and calls for justice by hundreds of students gheraoing the campus, video clips and digital pamphlets surfaced on social media alleging that the university is trying to suppress the truth.
On Sunday evening, Prakriti Lamsal a third-year B. Tech student, hailing from Nepal, was found dead in the KIIT Hostel. Soon after that, her friends claimed that she was ‘harassed’ by her ex-boyfriend, Advik Srivastava, and it forced her to took her own life after being unable to bear the mental pressure.
After the news broke out, hundreds of KIIT University students staged a sit-in at the campus while chanting slogans against the administration for allegedly trying to hide the evidence.
Video clips from social media featured a KIIT student recording a session of talks between the agitating students and the university authorities. In the same talks, the student can be heard claiming that the university was actively trying to play down the matter.
“They are trying to suppress the truth. They took away her (the deceased’s) phone and are not handing it back. The Vice-Chancellor and every other university authority are trying to hide the evidence,” the video clip stated amid prevailing loud uproar in the background.
Further, the social media shares called for mass protests at the university campus today and urged for support.
Till the last report came in, KIIT University did not offer any comment on the allegations or the entire matter. However, several platoons of police are currently deployed at the university to maintain law and order.
