Army Major, his fiance assaulted at Bharatpur Police Station
The Indian Army Major and his fiancee on Thursday appeared before the judicial commission as part of the probe into the alleged custodial torture case at Bharatpur police station in Bhubaneswar.
However, the accused and suspended IIC Dinakrushna Mishra and the other four police personnel didn’t appear before the judicial commission. Their lawyers instead represented them before the commission.
According to reports, the judicial commission, led by chairman Justice Chittaranjan Das, directed all the respondents to appear before it today. Moreover, the lawyers of all the youths involved in connection with the alleged harassment of the Major and his fiancee also appeared before the commission.
As per the latest development, the judicial commission, led by Justice Chittaranjan Das, probing into the alleged custodial harassment of the army major and his fiancée will visit the spot on November 19.
“The commission will visit Bharatpur Police Station at 3 pm on November 19,” informed Shubhendra Mohanty, secretary to the commission.
As per sources, a total of 16 persons have been summoned to appear before the commission today. The respondents were directed either to present their cases by themselves or through their lawyers.
Earlier, Odisha government had ordered an inquiry by a judicial commission into the alleged violence against the Major and his fiancee in police custody.
Notably, the Army Major and his fiancee were allegedly tortured by the police when they had gone to the police station to complain about a road rage. Some youths allegedly harassed them on the road on the same night. Instead of addressing their concerns, the police allegedly tortured the Major and the woman, even sending her to jail without any justification.
