Suresh Pattanayak
A tragic accident turned into a story of hope and humanity when the family of a young man from Odisha’s Ganjam district donated his vital organs after he was declared brain-dead in Bengaluru.
The deceased, Suresh Pattanayak, hailed from Sanakholi village under the Aska block in Ganjam district. He was critically injured in an accident and was undergoing treatment at two different hospitals in Bengaluru. After doctors declared him brain-dead, his family took the courageous and generous decision to donate his organs.
As a result, Suresh’s kidneys, liver, and heart were donated to patients in urgent need. In a particularly heartwarming instance, his liver was successfully transplanted into a 10-year-old child, giving the young recipient a new lease on life.
After three days, Suresh’s body was brought back to his village, where his last rites were conducted at the local cremation ground amid an atmosphere of deep grief and respect. The noble act of organ donation has been praised widely, with many calling Suresh a true hero who continues to live on through the lives he saved.
“He was working in Bangalore. He was on the night shift and was going with his friend. He was standing alongside the road when a speeding vehicle hit him and sped away. His kidneys, liver, heart, and other crucial parts have been donated. I’m feeling proud that my brother has given a new lease of life to at least 7 people,” stated the deceased’s brother, Ritesh Pattanayak.
“Although he died, he has brought pride to both his village and his family. He went away, but he saved so many lives. A little financial help for his family from the government would help his family,” stated a local.
